Tokyo Olympics : faster stronger higher together, united by emotion!

The biggest game on the planet which draws the fastest, strongest, highest...together, is also surrounded with controversies, debates and heartstoppers. India sent its largest contingent ever to these games yet most of the medal contenders bit the dust in their initial rounds itself.

The solid few who clinched their medals and proved their mettle remained strong game after game, round after round. It was heartening to see many wind up in the final few confirming the confidence reposed in them.

Its not just the athlete, but their family, their coach, their team and all their well wishers who together boost the sportsperson and are the wind beneath their wings.

It was fascinating to see the women in the squad shining bright from the first silver medal clinched by Meerabai Chanu, in weightlifting to boxer Lovlina Boroghain and shuttler PV Sindhu inching towards the podium. Many others sparkled as they edged towards the finals and were counted among the top few.

The immense mental pressure faced by the athletes can be very demanding and Simone Biles (US Gymnast) won everyone's appreciation as she put her own mental health first, withdrawing from the finals of the competition. A subject which was considered taboo and shoved under the carpet has finally been put out in the open, with complete support from her team and country. Way to go Simone... you have conquered many more hearts with this bold move.

  1. Due to the ongoing pandemic, many people have now started believing that mental health concerns do exist and is not just a taboo. The society has started accepting and supporting the people who struggle with keeping their mental health stable. The ones who are the victims have also started talking about it to the public. It is not something to be hidden anymore.
The Indian contingent in the Olympics has used it's time during the pandemic for skill improvement and is doing exceptionally well in the games! Due to the spread awareness about mental health, people are supporting the athletes even though they necessarily haven't won any medals.

  2. Mental Health , mostly if we observe human shows humanity or mercey towards a wound which he can clearly see,but various mental health problems are like the problems which cannot be expressed and is not easy to overcome,it is like if you have got hurt you are the only one who can literally feel not someone else. And if we consider in sports yes it is an issue which must be addressed seriously firstly by the athlete, and then his/her coach, family members and others. While sports provide many benefits, they can have negative effects on the mental health of more advanced athletes, especially elite athletes. Elite athletes play at varsity, regional, national, or professional levels.

    Thank you..!!

  3. The evolution of the Olympic Movement during the 20th and 21st centuries has resulted in several changes to the Olympic Games. Ms. Anamika has very accurately cinched both the glorious achievements of our Indian women athletes who have brought pride to our nation and the importance of mental health of every sportsperson taking part in this year's Olympic games . Mental skills training helps athletes effectively cope and return to a state of mental health quickly when they're in mental distress. Athletes proficient in self-regulation can adapt and adjust themselves mentally when they are not in their desired mental state to still deliver a great performance.

    1. Yes, we cant compartmentalise human competencies into physical or mental aptitudes only as they go hand in hand. Its clearly visible in disciplines like sports.

  4. Mental Health has become a very important component in our modern society. Any athlete is only as fit as his mind. As Simone Biles stated, an athlete's mental health should hold priority over a competition. Mental health should take priority over work for everyone. People also have started to understand the need to help others and hence slowly the overall mental health of the world is becoming healthier. A sportsperson with a healthy mind also performs better in his sport. He remains calm and can make quick decisions which increases performance.
Whereas a distressed player would make mistakes and fumble while making decisions. Even a person working a desk job performs better with apt mental health.

  6. This is the modern world. Athletes are bringing glory to the nation , many of them even being women. This proves that women are no less than men and amplifies the feeling of equality between both genders. All the athletes have practiced very hard and it is a big achievement in itself to even participate in a world level event like the Olympics. Hence all of them should be appreciated. The pandemic has drastically changed the lifestyle of people on this planet . One of which also involves mental health being affected . The big step taken by Simone Biles to withdraw from the finals proves how serious this issue is and needs to be addressed more . People should be able to tackle challenges in mental health and this can only be achieved when this problem starts getting discussed more among the masses . Kudos to all the athletes on my behalf for performing exceptionally in Tokyo Olympics 2020 ! Thank You , Aditya Dokewar .

  7. Everyone is talking about mental health being an important aspect at, and an issue that everyone should pay more attention to in Tokyo Olympics 2020.Though it has helped many people at various levels, I think there are other things that should also be credited, even if it's trivial. A small change can lead to a big one. It's all based on that one small change.
After a span of 13 years, India's national Anthem was played at the Olympics. Neeraj Chopra, "India's Gold", got India it's first ever gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics. Everyone was delighted and congratulated him on social media. His competitor from Pakistan, Arshad Nadeem, who could not win, took to his social media account and wished his 'idol' and apologized to his country for not winning. This triggers sportsmanship and to love each other as human beings and not let the past nation and hate barriers affect one's humanity and love towards a person from another country. This trivial act of Nadeem has broken many barriers. These kind of things will definitely continue to change the sentiments of people on both sides of the border.
But, this thing not only pertains to India and Pakistan, it is for each and every country in the world. And all of these athletes have shown us this side of them.
I am proud of each and every one!!
    Thank you!
